I write thoughtful self-help

I’ve just returned from a most excellent vacation in Denver (a city designed to respect pedestrians). While I was there, NBC published their second feature based on my series, Not Another Diet. This one focuses on my love of walking, and was inspired by Principle 4 - Move More All Day, Every Day.
Walking isn’t flashy or sexy, but I think it ought to be. It puts us in touch with our communities, nature, and ourselves if we can stand being without our phones for a bit.
This piece captures the idea that walking is a vehicle to fitness.
It’s an important activity unto itself, but for people whose bodies aren’t ready for high impact exercise, walking is the perfect first step 😁. Had I started with trying to run or go right to a gym, I would’ve quit. Walking allowed me to build momentum and progress as I was ready.
Eight years later, I still walk a lot. It’s not unusual for me to do 5-7 miles in a day. More on vacation.
“Walking has the power to get you somewhere both literally [and] to allow you to take leaps in your mind about what is possible for you and your body,” says Thomas.
